Giridih is a very old and gorgeous hamlet amidst the hills and hillocks, luring a large number of visitors, mainly from Bengal. Enclosed by numerous hills including the world-famous Jain Pilgrimage Shrine, where Nirvana – the 'Salvation' – was obtained by 20 out of 24 Jain Tirthankaras, Giridih is located in the core of Jharkhand.
Parasnath Temple
Parasnath is the highest hill in Jharkhand, at an elevation of 4,480 feet. The Parasnath Temple is listed among the most important and sanctified holy places of the Jains. As many as 23 out of 24 Tirthankaras (including Parsvanatha) have attained salvation here as per the Jain tradition. Much popular Parasnath Wildlife Sanctuary is situated here with its highest peak of 1,365 mtrs, the highest in the state. For adventure lovers, the best things to do here are trekking, hiking and wilderness camping, and seeing some of the rarest species of flora and fauna. Being the heaven for the Ecologists, the stream falling from the peak has medicinal value.
Madhuban
Madhuban, a village lying in pirtand block, possesses a renowned temple considered to be over 2000 years old. The place holds a significant religious importance for the Jain devotees, with having Samosharan Temple and Bhomiyaji Sthan, the two very famous Jain temples. A Jain Museum is also located at Madhuban possessing numerous Jain scriptures, Idols and manuscript. You can take the clear view of Parasnath Temple through the telescope installed at the museum’s balcony.
Harihar Dham
Harihar Dham, a small hamlet about 60 km southwest of Giridih District, has the largest Shiva Linga of India. The holy spot is visited by tourists from all over the world. The temple is also known for its classic sculpture.
